How long has it been since you were excited to see a 5 band bill at a mid-week metal show? It's probably been a while. Well, prepare to get your shit stirred at this Thursday's Ladies Choice event featuring Clinging to the Trees of a Forest Fire, Cascabel, Transient, Spacebag, and The Drip because each of the 5 bands are incredible and bring their own unique flavor.
First up, the locals:
The Drip from Richland, WA could have possibly put a little more thought into a band name but they more than make up for it with some brilliant grind/death metal. Spacebag, who have a new record coming out on Ladies Choice, are an oddball instrumental trio in the vein of....I have no idea. Listening to the recordings on their site I can imagine a lot of Mike Patton albums in the band's record collection. The last of the locals is Cascabel. It's hard to describe a band right now with qualifiers like metal and hardcore and not think of a bunch of break downs and crab stomps (I hate myself for even knowing what that means) but Cascabel live somewhere in that tension and don't suck. In fact, they're an incredible band!

Now, on to the out of towners:
Portland's Transient, like a lot of bands on this bill, owe a lot to Napalm Death and earlier crust punk. The band I'm most excited about seeing is CO's Clinging to the Trees of a Forest Fire whose album "Songs of Ill Hope and Desperation" was one of my favorites of the year back in '10. If you like your metal on the bleaker, despairing side, you're not going to get much better than this band. Total buzz kill!
