0 [BIG NEWS] Soundgarden to Play First Reunion Show Tomorrow @ Showbox

Words by Nik Christofferson

So now that the secret is completely out of the bag following Billboard.com's curiously and historically well-timed leak today. Seattle is in a panic stricken tizzy about how the fuck we going to weasel our way into the Showbox for tomorrow's first Soundgarden show since they announced plans for the reunion and more importantly first since 1997. The only thing that we can do is wait until some sort of announcement at this point. Unless you have a special tie to the band and know something I don't to which I hate your guts (nothing personal). Good luck sleeping tonight, I know I'll need it.

Here is the excerpt from the Billboard.com post that eventually lead to the current state of wide spread rumors and hysteria.

Newly reunited Soundgarden will play its first show since 1997 on Friday (April 16) at the Showbox at the Market in its Seattle hometown, Billboard.com has learned. It is unknown if the event is private or will be open to the public.

Vocalist Chris Cornell, guitarist Kim Thayil, bassist Ben Shepherd and drummer Matt Cameron have been rehearsing in Seattle in recent weeks as a precursor to their first confirmed reunion performance at Lollapalooza in Chicago in early August.

No other dates have been announced for Soundgarden, who split up after headlining Lollapalooza in 1996 but confirmed a reunion on January 1. The group is expected to plan activity around Cameron's previously confirmed schedule with Pearl Jam, which includes short North American and European tours through July.

There's no word yet if the band is planning to record new material. But on Saturday as part of National Record Store Day, Soundgarden will re-release its first 7-inch vinyl single, "Hunted Down" b/w "Nothing To Say," which originally came out in 1987 on Sub Pop.

0 [KILLER SHOW ALERT] Your Village Sucks! Fest Official Announcement

In conjunction with Algerbay Records and the Rocket Queen, Seattle Rock Guy is proud to present:

Your Village Sucks! Fest
10 Bands / 2 Stages
May 8th @ Rendezvous

$10 Presale/$12 Doors
9pm / 21+

Your Village Sucks! Fest is the brainchild of Algerbay Records founder and The Keeper frontman Andrew Chapman. With help from Seattle Weekly scribe and KEXP DJ Hannah Levin, as well as Seattle Rock Guy, this killer festival features 10 amazing NW bands on two stages for one night only.

The lineup is a stellar one; carefully crafted by all three sponsors with a firm finger on the pulse of Seattle's current metal and punk landscape. Though the lineup was assembled by three self-proclaimed metal heads, Your Village Sucks! Fest really has a little something for everyone, including a couple left field additions from our closest Canadian neighbors. Whether it be the metallic sludge riffs of Mico De Noche, the brazen disco rock of Vancouver B.C.’s Sex With Strangers or the amusing shtick of punk rockers Warning:Danger!, expect a beyond kick ass evening of debauchery and killer live music.

Your Village Sucks! Fest Official Lineup (in no particular order):

Vultures2012

Throne of Bone

Sex with Strangers

Mobile Slaughter Unit

Warning:Danger!

Mico De Noche

Madraso

Guilty About Girls

The Cold Cold Ground

Ashes of Empires (Not Pictured)

This event is not only a showcase of some of Seattle’s premier underground talent but is also a celebration and release party for Algerbay Records’ second FREE local music compilation entitled “Your Village Sucks! Too”. Back in 2009, Algerbay Records released the first compilation, which proved to be an excellent cross-sectional look at some NW bands that may or may not have slipped by your radar including The Keeper, Android Hero and Your Village Sucks! Fest participant The Cold Cold Ground to name a few. I also won’t hesitate to point out that SRG’s 1st birthday is quickly approaching, and the fest might be the unofficial birthday bash for us as well.

Advanced tickets are available now for $10 at Brown Paper Tickets and day of show for $12:

http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/107916

During the remainder of April leading up to the festival, SRG will provide a full preview for the fest, and will also be your official source for all info related to the event. So stay tuned for more on all the bands, as well as updates as they come. Feel free to RSVP on
Facebook, and drop us a line there as well.

If you appreciate Seattle’s vibrate music scene and are a supporter of all things metal, punk rock, DIY, and underground, Your Village Sucks! Fest is a no brainer, so mark your calendars because this night is going to rule all, don't miss it!
