I was browsing around on Easy Street Records’ website last night, just to see if there is anything new I should know about. Turns out there was! It seems they have booked quite a few excellent in-store performances in August and September, starting tomorrow with the record release of The Cave Singers second album “Welcome Joy”. They hit the Queen Anne location's stage at 7pm. This is going to be an amazing show, the new record is so, so good. I was lucky enough to have received the LP in mail 5 days before release date, so of course I’ve been spinning it all weekend. I can already tell I’m going to wear this record out. Some of the other acts scheduled to play Easy Street in the coming weeks include Vince Mira. Some say Vince is the re-incarnated Johnny Cash. At age 17 his voice is incredibly.... spot on Johnny. He does Cash covers but is also putting out solid original material as well. Interesting side note, Vince (Vincent Miranda) was a student at my wife’s high school in Federal Way before being snatched up by the owner of the Can Can, after hearing him busk in Pike Place Market. Vince has become a local and national phenomenon, even working with Stone Gossard. Also, on the list is Langhorne Slim. I caught him at Bumbershoot last year, and it was one of the best performances of the three days for me. He is the master of acoustic “country-punk”, and with his gut-wrenching lyrics, and energetic live performances he delivers the goods. His last record simply titled “Langhorne Slim” stayed in heavy rotation for a long time, his new album again being released on Kemado Records “Be Set Free”, will be out September 29th. The other bands on the list are The Moondoggies who make another Easy Street appearance August 23rd; they played there in April for Record Store Day 2009. Jay Reatard who is doing an independent record store tour hits Easy Street on August 26th, and Sonic Boom Records on the 27th. Also the legendary Meat Puppets make a stop before their show at the Chop Suey on Sept 23rd. Here is the full schedule of all the happenings scheduled through the end of September so far:
