0 Karp Documentary
I came across this trailer tonight, thanks to a tweet by The Stranger's Megan Seling. NY-based documentarian Bill Badgley (from Bellingham band Federation X, saw them at the Funhouse a while back, it rocked and I still have the two 7" I bought at the show) has been working on a documentary of Olympia sludge band Karp. Karp (Kill All Redneck Pricks) was a local favorite from 1990-1998, and included Chris Smith, Jared Warren, and Scott Jernigan. Jarrod Warren is the most known member and went on to form The Whip with Scott and Joe Preston (ex-Melvins bassist) and then of course Big Business with Coady Willis of The Murder City Devils. He and Coady have also become full time members of the Melvins. Scott Jernigan was also in The Whip with Jarrod Warren and Joe Preston, but passed away in 2003 in a boating accident. Chris Smith seems to have retired from music. From the trailer this looks like a killer documentary on a northwest band that deserves much more credit than they recieved. "Karp Lives: 1990-1998" is due out sometime in the remainder of 2009.
