0 Killer Show Alert!: Langhorne Slim @ Tractor Tavern [11-2-09]

Wedged between the two night Pearl jam stint at Key Arena last week was a free in-store by Langhorne Slim. The rambunctious folk rocker is currently on a tour of indie record stores supporting his brand new record "Be Set Free". I snuck into a packed Easy Street Records (QA) before heading to the Key to catch a quick set by of one of my favorite artists of 2008.

The first time I heard "Restless" from last year's self-titled release, I was hooked. He is one hell of a song writer, with biting emotional lyrics that struck a major chord with me immediately. The abridged set at Easy Street consisted of a few songs from "Be Set Free" but also surprisingly hit on more well known gems like "Honey Pie", "Diamonds and Gold", and "Hello Sunshine" as well.

Langhorne Slim is not only a great song writer but an energetic performer. During his performance at Bumbershoot 2008, he more than once hopped up onto the kick drum and basically turned his set into something that more resembled a punk rock show than a folk rock show. On the small stage at Easy Street he pulled off the same move and even fell over the record cases at one point after getting a little excited towards the end of "Honey Pie". It was awesome!

At the show Langhorne announced that he would be back in Seattle, playing the Tractor Tavern November 2nd. Easy Street Record's owner Matt Vaughn was as giddy as a school boy as he introduced Langhorne and his killer band, and I am starting to feel the same way knowing that he'll be back in town in a month. Check out the video of "Honey Pie" from Easy Street, and you'll see how fun a Langhorne Slim show can be.
