0 KMFDM @ Moore Theater

Oct. 12th, 2009 - KMFDM @ Moore Theater

On Monday KMFDM was back in Seattle for a show at the Moore Theater. The long running German industrial metal band led by one time Seattle transplant and only original member Sascha Konietzko played a blazing set of tracks spanning the bands 25 year career, as well as material from their 16th studio album “Blitz” released last March. This was my second time seeing KMFDM, though the show I attended at the Fenix Underground some years ago is hazy enough to say this was my first KMFDM live experience. I won’t pretend to be very familiar with much of their music, as I have always overlooked this type of metal for one reason or another. That is not to say KMFDM didn’t put on a great show, and the crowd was more than enthused to see the industrial metal legends.

Between cigarettes Sascha K traded vocal duties with his partner in crime, wife Lucia Cifarelli. When he wasn’t hiding behind his sampler, Sascha was front and center spewing nihilistic rhetoric, to which the audience responded by bashing each other in the nice little mosh pit that had formed. When Sascha would retreat to tweak knobs and chain smoke, sultry Lucia took the reins and slithered around the stage. The husband and wife pair definitely seemed to be a match made in German industrial metal heaven. The hard driving guitar sounds were supplied by rhythm guitarist Steve White, and current Seattleite Jules Hodgson, who was responsible for many impressive and blazing solos. I hadn’t jumped into a pit in awhile but KMFDM lured me in. What else are you going to do when you’re overcome with thumping bass, pounding drums, shredding guitars, and some dude in aviators and a mohawk is singing about anarchy in German? I only wish I had brought my shit kickers with me. Check out my slideshow and video.
