0 FREE DOWNLOAD: Algerbay Records Presents 'Your Village Sucks': A Mix CD

About three weeks ago I received an amazing compilation in my inbox featuring some extremely noisy bands from Seattle and beyond entitled “Your Village Sucks”. This collection of tunes has since left a lasting impression on me, and that is why I’m compelled to share it with you today.

The compilation is brought to us by local label Algerbay Records and is a pet project for ‘The Keeper’ front man Andrew Chapman. According to Chapman he decided to start doing the compilations and just giving them out in order to push his friend’s bands and other local bands. I for one would just like to thank Andrew for his noble approach, and of course waking me up to some of great local bands who are part of this first compilation.

The 12 song compilation includes Seattle bands like The Keeper, Android Hero, I’m a Gun, Black Science, and The Cold Cold Ground, as well as Vancouver’s Sex With Strangers and New York’s The Austerity Program. The styles range from The Keeper’s wizard metal, to Android Hero's breakneck punk, to Sex with Strangers’ nu-wave disco punk, to the killer garage rock stylings of I’m a Gun and The Cold Cold Ground. The quality contained on this killer collection brings to mind the many nights I spent relishing in cheap beer and listening to the fine obscure post-punk, metal and noise bands blaring from the sound system at Kincora before it closed. It also strengthens my ingrained desire and need to cram amazing stuff like this down each and every one of your throats.

Andrew stated in our email conversation that his goal is to release a new compilation every 3 months or so. I will surely spotlight the next one as soon as I hear about it. For now, if you enjoy some of the finer things in life such as fast, heavy, gritty, and aggressive music, and possibly enjoy KEXP’s punk radio show ‘Sonic Reducer’. Do yourself a favor and download “Your Village Sucks” for free here on Seattle Rock Guy courtesy of Algerbay Records.

A side note on Algerbay Records: Last weekend they celebrated the record release of Android Hero’s new record “Broken Hearted Love Songs for Sensitive Tough Guys”. Android Hero played two shows on consecutive nights and I was at Sunset last Friday for night two of the CD release party. Look for a review of that show down the road as well as some words on the record too. It’s blasting in my ears as I write and it’s great!
