In the spirit of year end reflection SRG will be jumping on the “Best of…” list band wagon just like everyone else. Lists get a bad rap for some reason unbeknownst to me. I’ve always enjoyed lists, they are an easy way to discovery new music and a quick way to see what other people are listening too as well. They may be a pain to put together and a little stressful because they’re usually scrutinized more than any one review someone might write, but that’s fine with me. I would never shy away from some healthy discussion on such important topics as what is the best metal record released in 2009, or if Russian Circles should be included on this list in the first place...of course you know my answer.
What started as an overall lame duck year for metal, 2009 all but redeemed itself with some brilliant releases in the last six months. I am officially back home closing out the year in my comfort zone; fully rejuvenated, invigorated and downright engrossed once again in all things heavy, and these 40 records from 2009 are the reasons why.

Awesome list dude! I got quite a few on there but still not even close to half. Thanks for the heads up, and reminding me that I need that Pelican album like months ago. Long live SRG LISTS!
