1 [VIDEOS] Triumph of Lethargy Skinned Alive to Death / Victory and Associates / Police Teeth @ Sunset Tavern

Words and Videos by Nik Christofferson

This killer show put together by Police Teeth singer/guitarist James Burns consisting of his band, newish Bay Area act Victory and Associates, and Triumph of Lethargy Skinned Alive to Death went down back on April 9th at the Sunset Tavern. This was Police Teeth’s first gig in 6 months, as Burns has been busy with Triumph of Lethargy guitarist Corey Brewer in Cold Lake. The entertaining act opened the evening with signature goofball song titles and hooky pop punk riffs, sounding nothing like a band that has been on hiatus for half a year. Keeping with their already tongue in cheek ways the Police Teeth fellas also stepped off stage more than once to grab a closed curtain swig of their drinks.

Out-of-towners Victory and Associates set up next and took to it with vigor. Featuring ex-members of a number of popular bay area bands including Mount Vicious, Victory and Associates kept things loose with anthemic good time punk rock party jams. Frontman Conan Neutron is a flashy showman, and used his high energy to stir some life into the room over V&A’s weighty riffs. The band is currently on the road promoting its inclusion on the anti-Karl Rove compilation “Courage and Consequence: The Unabridged Audio”, and also has a 7” on the way featuring their fist pumping tune “Party Savior”.

Triumph of Lethargy Skinned Alive to Death ran through a bunch of brand new material in typical melancholy fashion. The good news is the new songs are really good, and from my perspective slightly more straight forward rock with Corey Brewer showing off his guitar chops more than remembered. Spencer Moody was his usually caustic self, but this time no chest kicking fireworks to report. Just one of Seattle's most charismatic frontman doing what he does best-- grab everyone in the room's full attention the moment he took to the stage, and maintain it until he walked off. Stoked for the new TOLSATD record, which should be out this year.

Here’s a couple vids from the evening:
