Red Fang changes me. Normally mild mannered, put me front and center at a Red Fang show and the result will be an unhinged, uninhibited rock and roll monster. There has not been a more invigorating live band to come around since Himsa owned at El Corazon, and I admit I have not physically rocked as hard as I have since Red Fang came into my life. There is something about their mega-heavy driving rock and roll that casts a spell overall me; blood courses through my veins, and I feel fucking alive. It’s a beautiful thing.
During their blistering set a couple weekends ago celebrating the Sunset Tavern’s 10th anniversary, Red Fang unveiled another brand new song that has since come to be known as “Throw Up”. Ironically Red Fang drummer John Sherman, exerted so much energy during the Fang’s set that he actually blew chunks back stage right before storming back for the triumphant encore. “Throw Up” had all the ingredients of a killer Red Fang tune; beefy guitars, a powerful bass groove, Aaron’s stoner rock croon, and of course Sherman’s punishing Neanderthal-style drum work. The obvious difference between this new track and anything off the band’s debut was the crushing beauty of “Throw Up’s” latter half, which featured an immense swirling barrage of guitars and effects; a sound unique to anything heard from the band prior. Simply put it sounded like an epic amalgamation of the bands stoner rock influences, and I'm still recovering from battle wounds suffered in its wake. So stoked for the new record it’s unbearable.
