Back in the day, while working at a car wash, the fellas nicknamed me PLUTO claiming I was, "way out there."
They might have been right. If out and about with the SRG crew, it feels like I come from outer space, not understanding the language my buddies spew about this band and that band. I'm completely out of it! Once, just once, I would like to be the guy who introduces a band to the guys.
Not going to happen.
A few months ago, Nik turned me onto Lozen - a band who I never had heard of. Nik told me the drummer from Helms Alee played guitar and sang.
Sold. Helms Alee is one of my favorite bands.
And now so is Lozen.
We ventured to the Green House, cramming ourselves into a tiny basement with a few other lucky patrons. Lozen came out and just fucking destroyed everything that lay in their wake. Their intense set mesmerized, the energy contagious.
Then, Lozen broke into "Precious Baby Squirrel" and I had one of the best show experiences of my life. The brutal strength behind the vocals and sound locked me in and the duo gave it all they had. When the song concluded, nothing could be done except scream, yell, and grin.
What did I learn? Lozen fucking rules. Go see them tonight at the Rendezvous. Also on this awesome bill of all "duos" are John Calvin, Spirit of Radio, and Aerial Ruin.
