0 SHOW PREVIEW: YOB / Lesbian / Witch Mountain @ Highline

For tonight’s lethal metal injection look no further than the Highline on Capitol Hill, where menacing and downright colossal Eugene, OR natives YOB will play a much overdue Seattle gig along with local boys Lesbian and Portland doom troop Witch Mountain. YOB reunited last year and released one of the finest metal records of 2009. “The Great Cessation” is pulverizing doom metal at its bleakest, a wrecking ball of aural destruction aimed to crush any dilapidated notions of how mesmerizing and utterly stifling metal can be. Mike Scheidt and company play on another level all together and if holding down an opening slot for the mighty Sleep at MusicFestNW last weekend is just one indicator of their massive presence. Then the fact that they actually more than held their own, not only sonically but in sheer weight of volume compared to the mighty Pike and Cisneros--  should be cause for a change in plans this evening in lieu of something heavier.

Seattle’s own Lesbian continues to preview and refine their penetrating new material locally as well as on the road, having toured the West Coast as well as having ventured to Montana for the prestigious Total Fest. Lesbian is a local metal powerhouse and from the material I’ve heard, they are going to up the ante as soon as their long awaited sophomore release sees the light of day (I hear sometime in the next couple months).

The Highline is situated on Capitol Hill at the corner of Broadway and E John, the show is 21+, $10, and starts at 9pm or so.
