0 Ryan Schutte's (LB.!) Top Albums of 2012

This was really challenging for me. I’m not sure if it’s really been the best year in music in a while, or if I’ve just been more aware of how many excellent bands are out there! I couldn’t decide what order they should go in, but here’s a list of the 15 albums that have come out this year that I have listened to the most.

Gorod – A Perfect Absolution
Tech Death champions from France. I’d been waiting 3 years for a new full length, and they didn’t disappoint.

Heikousen – Parallels
Spastic, grindy and excellent. Definitely a band to check out.

Cryptopsy – Cryptopsy
The death grind lords return to the throne! Killer album all the way through.

Car Bomb – w^w^^w^w
It’s been a long 5 year wait for anything new from Car Bomb, and I couldn’t be more excited about the new album. A must check out if you’re into weird guitar noises and math metal.

Beneath The Massacre – incongruous
Like a power drill to the face. Fast, unrelenting and chocked full of brutal blazing riffs.

C.B. Murdoc – The Green
Not the most technical album this year, but easily one of the best for head banging.

Conan – Monnos
Super slow, wall of sound, droning sludge/doom. The perfect sound track to a caveman’s daily activities.

Converge – All We Love We Leave Behind
It’s Converge. They don’t disappoint, and the new album is no exception.

Dopethrone – III
Stoney, sludgey goodness at it’s finest. A constant plodding pummeling fat man in a swamp style riffs.

Earthship – Iron Chest
Featuring former members of The Ocean. Sound like a good mix of The Ocean’s “Precambrian” and early Mastodon. Very much worth a listen.

Murder Construct – Results
An all out grindfest all the way through. If you’re into grind, get into Murder Construct!

The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza – Danza IIII : The Alpha – The Omega
Lots of killer polyrhythms and weird guitar noises that will leave you shaking your head, wondering how he got those sounds!

Meshuggah – Koloss
Meshuggah have really hit their stride at this point. They know what they’re fans want, and they deliver!

Cattle Decapitation – Monolith of Inhumanity
At first I was rather conflicted about this album. It’s not what I wanted from Cattle Decapitation, but it’s such a great album.

Pig Destroyer – Book Burner
Pig Destroyer has yet to disappoint me, the new album being no exception. Lyrically, it’s my favorite of the year.

For those not familiar with Lb.! (Pound), they are a two piece grind/sludge band originally from Missoula, MT, featuring Ryan Schutte on guitar and David Stickney on drums. Ryan also interns at KISW's Metal Shop. LB.! has a record on the way so look for these dudes to continue to be very active in the local metal community in 2013.
