It's no secret that SRG is a huge metal fan, and has been for a long time. So if there is metal playing somewhere at a festival like this you better believe I will be there banging my head with the rest of the metal people. There was one pure metal band playing at the CHBP and that was Seattle's own Book of Black Earth. They played in the Cha Cha's "black dungeon" which ended up being the place I discovered a few other pretty interesting bands earlier in the day. It was the unofficial stage of the CHBP and was very well curated.
Book of Black Earth always blows the roof off, they play thrashy death metal and are a definite local favorite as proved by the sheet hanging from an apartment building above the main stage area advertising their set time. It was very cool to see them get signed to Prosthetic records last year, as it was much deserved. I know at least one of the guys, Joe on drums plays in many bands and probably works his ass off. The Cha Cha was having technical difficulties at first with some blown fuses but after one false start power outage which darkened the whole room they tore into their material. This was a second day highlight for me, it was a perfect blend of an evening festival beer buzz, brutal metal, and an intimate venue. \m/
