Pearl Jam announced a fun thing today in preparation for the release of their new album "Backspacer" on September 20th. They hid 9 pieces of artwork from cartoonist Tom Tomorrow aka Dan Perkins of "This Modern World" fame on various sites around the net associated with PJ or music in some way for their fans to find and collect. Finding the 9 pieces unlocks a free download of an Eddie Vedder demo version of Backspacer track "Speed of Sound" (make sure your browser excepts cookies). It actually wasn't quite as easy as it would seem, the artwork was pretty well hidden on Yahoo, and they picked a couple sites unfamiliar to the SRG like drownedinsound.com. I eventually found them as you can see above, a very cool collage.
It's cool thing that Pearl Jam enlisted Tom Tomorrow to help with the artwork. Eddie had posted on open letter on pearljam.com some time back about how: "In January, Village Voice Media, the largest group of weekly newspapers in the country, indefinitely suspended all syndicated cartoons. In a single day, Tom’s strip "This Modern World" was cut from 12 papers." Economic Times! It's very nice of these constant philanthropists to lend a helping hand. Read that letter here.
Also, hopefully by now you know that PJ is playing two shows in September at Key Arena, if not check out my previous post on that here. I also uploaded that free track and you can download it below. Cheers!
