2 Moondoggies Galore!

The Moondoggies are giving their fans a large helping of live performances during the next two weeks. They are playing a total of 3 shows this week not including a reunion set by frontman Kevin Murphy and bassist Bobby Terreberry's old digs The Familiars. The Familiars are a major departure from The Moondoggies folk sound. Can you imagine the local folk phenoms creating noisy as hell garage rock? Well, check it out on their myspace it's pretty awesome, and according to their site Jack Endino had a hand in those early recordings.

The Moondoggies are part of a new show MTV's "5 Dollar Cover" which is being filmed in Seattle right now, directed by Lynn Shelton, who is the director of "Humpday". The reality tv show features local Seattle bands such as the Maldives, Thee Satisfaction, Thee Emergency, Harvey Danger, Champagne Champagne, Tea Cozies, the Lights, Weekend, and The Moondoggies. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the whole thing, though it's pretty cool for the bands involved. I just wish MTV would stay as far away from Seattle as possible.

According to info I found around the net the filming schedule includes places like "Mark Gajadhar's studio" (he's the drummer in Past Lives, and half of Weekend), "Sean Nelson's apartment" (Harvey Danger singer, music writer), and "The Moondoggies car." It also includes Chop Suey (8/10; Thee Emergency performance), the KEXP studio (8/15; Tea Cozies performance), Easy Street Records (8/22; The Moondoggies' performance), Hidmo Eritrean Restaurant (8/23; Thee Satisfaction performance), and the Wild Rose (8/25; the Lights performance). Looks like shooting ends the beginning of September in Missoula with The Moondoggies.

The Moondoggies are playing twice for the MTV film crews locally including tomorrow at 2pm at Jules Maes in Georgetown, and Sunday at Easy Street Records (QA) at 1pm. They also are playing the last free show as part of the Mural Concert Series sponsored by KEXP Friday at 6pm with the Fruit Bats and Johnny and the Moon. Also Kevin and Bobby will be rocking the Funhouse on Friday night with The Familiars Reunion. They also are playing with The Maldives next week as part of that 3 day Maldives (Record Release)/Tractor Tavern Birthday extravaganza.

Here is the list of all The Moondoggies shows happening in town during this week and next, get your fill because I believe they are headed into hibernation soon to record their much anticipated sophomore album later in the year:

Wednesday August 19th 2pm @ Jules Maes Saloon

Friday August 21st 6pm @ Mural Amphitheater (Seattle Center)

Friday August 21st 9:30pm @ Fun House (Familiars Reunion featuring Kevin and Bobby)

Sunday August 23rd 1pm @ Easy Street Records

Friday August 28th 9pm @ Tractor Tavern
