Seattle Rock Guy is proud to introduce another new contributor and local rock guy to the mix, my good buddy and former co-worker QuitterDan. Dan and I worked for the same evil vender of Satan’s diabetes serum from ’02-’07. We quickly bonded over music after one day our boss at the time decided it was good idea to have a brief music trivia contest. I admit I was quickly put to rest by Dan’s vast knowledge of obscure punk, and searing 70’s rock, (correct answer: Golden Earring, damn!) but a friendship formed just the same. I credit Dan for bringing to my attention to such amazing bands as: Roxy Music, X, The Exploding Hearts, Heartless Bastards, and Zen Guerilla, but that is only the very tip of his music knowledge iceberg.
Dan’s unique insight not only comes from being a rabid music fan, but also from being a musician himself. Dan beat the skins for popular early nineties bay area alt-rock band Overwhelming Colorfast, and has lent his keen sense of time signatures to other projects as well. Most recently he has been having a blast rocking in multiple Seattle tribute bands including Alice Cooper Tribute “Devils Food”, and the areas only Screaming Trees Tribute band “Black Sun Morning”. The latter recently attracted original Screaming Trees drummer and current “Praying Hand”, Mark Pickerel. Mark jumped up onstage and played with the band during a recent grunge tribute night at the Showbox.
QuitterDan will be throwing his two cents in every once and awhile, and I’m super stoked that he enthusiastically signed on to help expand Seattle Rock Guy's coverage. Welcome QuitterDan to the fold by reading his review(s) of the two day rock bonanza which went down at Neumos two weeks ago as two legendary bands, The Jesus Lizard and Fu Manchu rolled through Seattle on consecutive nights. Rock!
