Maybe I'm showing my age but for as long as I can remember the Sunset Tavern has always been a go-to spot for amazing local shows, not to mention an intimate place to check out up-and-coming touring acts as well. From Mudhoney to The Moondoggies, the list is much too long to remember or recite, but one of my favorite shows from recent years would have to be the very first Seattle appearance by Swedish doom rockers, Witchcraft. The much renowned Swedes had been denied by customs on their first try for Seattle back on October 23rd, 2006, but it was worth the wait because a certain fledgling black metal act from Olympia was tapped to join them with Portland psych rock act Danava for their make up show a few months later. Wolves blew my mind in that little room, and damn if they aren't of course packing places like Neumos now. Witchcraft was amazing in their own right, tearing through much of their second record "Firewood" as well as choice selections from their self-titled debut, making this Sunset Tavern show, one to remember.
I absolutely love hanging out in the Ballard institution, and damn if I haven't seen some killer shows. SRG contributor Matt Koroulis has captured quite a few special Sunset Tavern moments of his own as well in recent times, and to celebrate the 10 year anniversary Matt has hand picked some of his favorite Sunset Tavern photos to share. I'm stoked once again to exclusively feature some of Matt's awesome work here on SeattleRockGuy.com. Enjoy!
