I’m not quite sure what to say about this previously unknown entity called Hair Vest. Going into the block party, there was hardly a whisper online about who they were or what they brought to the table musically. I say fashion forward in a really loose and slightly obscene sense of the word because check out frontdude’s outfit and be glad you don’t get to see his backside. Actually it was pretty damn hilarious and Hair Vest tore it up too-- with a brash tongue-in-cheek combination of “Fuck you” and “Eat Shit” garagecore (new genre?). Was that a Venom cover?
Hair Vest’s outlandish performance proved to be the perfect elixir on top of the cozied one in my hand for a little playtime on my own terms. This was also one of the few instances all weekend where I felt I was surrounded by a crowd of more than a few likeminded individuals who also had little in the way of patience for some of the douchery on and off the main stage.
