0 SHOW PREVIEW(s): All This Weekend! Crybaby Studios Comp Release @ Neumos / Black Cobra @ Comet Tavern / Smooth Sailing @ Chop Suey

Friday (Tonight!) - 7/16:

Crybaby Studios, a practice space located a block away from Neumos on Capitol Hill is celebrating the release of a new compilation featuring the bands that currently hold residency in the facility. On it are some really great up and coming local acts including The Absolute Monarchs, See Me River, garage rockers My Goodness, and the folk rock of Book of Black Earth frontman T.J. Cowgill who goes under the moniker King Dude to name a few. 9 of the 13 bands on the compilation will take the stage tonight at Neumos and the show is only $5. This is a prime opportunity to check out some new and interesting Seattle bands. It’s also worth mentioning that the compilation will be FREE at the door. If by chance you can’t make it tonight much like my sorry ass, make up for it by checking out the Cha Cha lineup for next week’s CHBP—The Absolute Monarchs and My Goodness are on the bill among others.

Saturday - 7/17:

A couple months back Matt and I had the pleasure of seeing an amazingly crushing duo out of LA called Black Cobra open for High on Fire at Chop Suey. Needless to say they were super sludgy, super impressive, and basically made Priestess, who followed, sound like the shitty Canadian hack wannabes they are. This Southern Lord band must not be overlooked, especially if you get down with ultra-heavy, bong-toking, fist-clenching stoner metal. Also on the bill, are Howl, Seattle’s own Lesbian and Vultures 2012. Last but not least The Keeper frontman and good friend of SRG, Andrew Chapman, will be celebrating the big 3-0 at the show by holding down DJing duties between sets -- spinning only the very best in metal to be certain. So buy his ass a drink, and don’t ball punch him.

Sunday - 7/18:

Smooth Sailing are opening for some bands I’ve never heard of at Chop Suey on Sunday, and it looks as though they might have first billing. The Seattle sextet creates rivating molten hardcore-laced math metal. Their material can be grandiose, crushing, and delicate all within the span of a 5 minute span while never sounding like too much. These guys kill live! So here’s how my evening will go: a quick stop by Everyday Music to rummage through vinyl, and then over to the Suey for a quick shot of blistering local metal before bed. Done.
