I first discovered Hunab Ku last November at Emerald City Metal Fest by accident really. It was an all-day music event and I had nothing to do so I decided to head down early, and holy shit did that ever turn out to be a good idea. I got their early afternoon, and not more than two steps into that dungeon known as Studio 7 I was instantly rocked with an eargasm by the madness that is Hunab Ku. All I caught was their final two songs but that was all the convincing I needed to instantly turn around and pick up their album “The Gaze Inward”. Since that day catching an entire HK set has been near the top of my show priority list and on July 21st I finally got that chance at The Funhouse.
As far as when it came time for HK to take the stage I could go on and on about the absolute mind fuck of a show they put on, or how watching front man Mike Gilmore on stage makes me want to take speed, run into the woods and fight bears. I’ll just let you watch the below videos and see for yourself.
If you never had the chance to catch Hunab Ku live, don’t worry. I caught up with vocalist Mike Gilmore after the show and he said they had a few guitarists from around the country they were looking into to replace Luke and there is no fucking way this is the end of the road for the band.
As far as Luke Jaeger goes, he is working on a few other projects like Sleep Terror, Acrophase, and World under Blood so hopefully it won’t be long before we get to see Luke on stage in a Seattle venue again.
