This week's WATCH OR DIE! postures as a buffet of awesomeness, a salad bar with lots of meat! July means Capitol Hill Block Party and two local bands stand out, so bring on the vids and glimpse what you will miss if you decide to stay in and watch dvds.
HELMS ALEE - "Shhmna"
I shot this video thinking it would not turn out. Darkness enveloped The Comet on this dreary January night, but a single street light provided enough light to make the video look somewhat interesting. It's cool to see Dana James and Ben Verellen tearing shit up. Amazing! However, one huge negative is not seeing Helms Alee's shredding drummer: Hozoji Matheson-Margullis. This does not bode well for my vid but Hozoji can be heard and not being seen adds a bit of mystery to all of you who may venture to the Cha Cha to witness the greatness of Helms Alee. Your mind will be blown.
Helms Alee is one of my favorite bands. Their album Night Terror mesmerizes, treating listeners to a trip to someplace different - I just can't get enough! Get down to the Cha Cha Lounge on Friday, July 23rd at 9:45pm to catch the show! Helms Alee is not to be missed!
Steel Tigers of Death - "Where Eagles Dare" (Misfits Cover)
Two years ago, Taco Cart shot some bands at the Funhouse for a charity event. Unfortunately, nothing panned out. Don't know what happened. Soon, I left the country and that was that. Recently, revisiting some old mini-dv tapes unearthed some footage featuring the bad ass punk outfit: Steel Tigers of Death. SToD's energetic live shows always make for a good time and these dudes bring it every time. Stumbling upon this footage made my day. Psssst, if STOD read this, I have the entire set recorded if you want it!
