0 BONNAROO 2010: Melvins (Photos)

Two weeks before their turn on Saturday of Bonnaroo, the Melvins dropped the 20th full length record of their storied 27 year career, entitled “The Bride Screamed Murder”-- a tremendously heavy effort still very high on my “best of 2010 so far” list. This meant that for just about everyone including myself this was our first opportunity to hear the new material in a live setting. The set focused mainly on the last three releases, all of which of course feature the stout Big Business rhythm section of Jared Warren on bass and 2nd drummer Coady Willis-- both popular ex-Seattleites.

Overall the new material was strong live especially “Electric Flower”, a song I initially was lukewarm on during my first couple spins of ‘Murder’. A couple other highlights from the performance were the best Melvins song that isn’t actually a Melvins song-- their cover of Flipper’s “Sacrifice” off Lysol, and “AMAZON” from the first record of 'The Trilogy', The Maggot. It’s funny to think I traveled 2,500 miles to see the Melvins (among others of course), a band I have seen almost more than any other. I suppose everyone has their neuroticisms.

On a side note, an hour or so before they took the stage, I ran into Buzz backstage after he finished an interview for Pandora Radio. I had to meet the man, and he graciously obliged for a photo. Check it out below along with my other Melvins photos from Bonnaroo 2010.
