This week Jerry spotlighted local metal band Into the Storm in his column Watch or Die. He did this for a big reason. They are one of two local metal bands that will be embarking on a short but equally important west coast tour. Both Into the Storm and Smooth Sailing will begin this 11 stop tour right here in Seattle TONIGHT!! at the Galway Arms-- an oft forgotten about punk bar a few blocks north of the 45th and University junction.
Smooth Sailing have been electrifying local metal fans for about a year or so, possibly longer, and with an impressive demo under their belts they are taking their crushing duel bass metal attack on the road. This heavily touted SRG favorite brings to the table an interesting mixture of styles-- mathy and ferocious like Botch, riffsavage like more recent Cave In, melodic like Caspian, and most importantly downright punishing like metal is supposed to be-- that is all on them.
I’m excited to see what comes from this tour, because the bros in Smooth Sailing will most certainly impress on their little adventure south. At the very least they’ll hopefully spread the demo a bit, make a few fans and friends, and report back with offers for more tours.
We at SRG wish Smooth Sailing and Into the Storm a safe and excellent tour. Kick ass and spread the good word about Seattle metal.
One last thought but tonight begins the short countdown to an early grave for one of our favorite local bands. The Keeper is calling it quits after 4 short years and sadly at a time when they are needed most. You have very little chances to “Sharpen the Blades” and tonight is one of those, as they open for Smooth Sailing and Into the Storm. The Keeper also rocks Saturday at Linda’s Tavern on Capitol Hill for Linda’s Fest. Keep an eye right here for more about The Keeper’s passing, as we will be chronicling their last rights in the coming weeks.

I was pondering what to do tonight and this show came up as one of the options. After hearing you (Nik) rave about the Keeper for a while I figure I better check them out while I still have the chance. Plus getting to check out a show at a venue I've never been to is always cool but now I read this write-up and see the words "Botch" and "Caspian" in the same sentence, now it will take an act of god to keep me from attending, thanks Nik!
