2 SHOW PREVIEW: Summer Slaughter Tour @ Studio Seven
You may have noticed the barrage of “extreme” Summer tours this year are lacking something… something you can’t exactly put a finger on… something… oh yeah, BALLS. Seriously, Mayhem Fest? The Uproar Festival? What reasonable heavy music fan gives a fuck about Korn and Disturbed in 2010? Are these people high? It’s enough to make you want to hang yourself.
Take that rope down from the rafters, now. There’s hope. The entire heavy music community hasn’t gone completely fucktarded overnight. Behold, the Summer Slaughter Tour. Somebody out there still has an inkling of what gnarly heavy music is, because this is a staggering line up of death metal and grindcore acts.
Let’s do a run down, shall we? Polish legends Decapitation, hyrdogrind pioneers Cephalic Carnage, pure death metal via the Faceless, Veil of Maya, Decrepit Birth, some serious brutality from Carnifex and Vital Remains, plus The Red Chord and All Shall Perish (you know, for good measure). There’s gonna be more growling than a pack of pit bulls and more blast beats than a human brain can process.
Strangely enough, the band that is the absolute must-see on this bill is also the one that is most distant from the all-out race for absolute unlistenability (not that there’s anything wrong with that) taking place between the other ten acts. Animals as Leaders, fronted by eight-string virtuoso extraordinaire Tosin Abasi is a slice of elegant (yet heavy) instrumental prog that will leave your head spinning.
Really now, where are you going to find more in-fucking-sane metal under one roof on a hot Friday night in August? Plus it’s at Studio Seven, the only Seattle venue that may possibly be louder than Neumos. Bring your ear plugs and a diaper. I’ll be at the door handing out grapefruit.

I have to agree with you there Matt, Animals as Leaders is definitely at the top of my must see list tomorrow. It's just unfortunate that they're probably going to be taking the stage by 4, see you there man.
ReplyDeleteWould love to see the new Decapitated line-up. Seeing Vital again would rule as well. Damn work
