1 WATCH OR DIE #12: STRAIGHT TO HELL!

Repo Man still ranks as one of my all time favorite films. I absolutely destroyed my shitty VHS tape back in the day. Every ten minutes, "Oh shit, rewind! REWIND!" due to the relentless attack of classic quotes that can be heard throughout, especially, from the Repo lot clean up dude: Miller. The banter between Miller and Otto dominated my answering machine for most of the early nineties.
"You know the way everybody is into weirdness right now? Books in all the supermarkets about the Bermuda Triangle, UFO's, how the Mayans invented television, that kind of thing? Well the way I see it it's exactly the same. There ain't no difference between a flying saucer or a time machine."
This is followed up with Otto asking, "Miller, did you do a lot of acid back in the hippy days?"

Classic.

Repo Man director, Alex Cox, has pieced together a nice career. Most film directors would love to have two films as good as Repo Man or Sid and Nancy. Cox's Walker could be one of the most under appreciated films out there that deserves proper treatment on dvd. He always pushes the envelope when it comes to storytelling and seems quite content with his place in the underground. After purchasing Sergio Leone's Once Upon a Time in the West some years ago, I jumped for joy upon the realization that the extras came with an Alex Cox commentary.

SCORE!

Through the 10th, Alex Cox's punk rock western, Straight to Hell!, plays at the Grand Illusion. The film stars legendary bad ass Joe Strummer, Elvis Costello, and the punk rock band The Pogues. Even the infamous skank Courtney Love shows up if that floats your boat, and if it does, your soul is damaged.

This version of Straight to Hell reveals five to six minutes of extra footage! It's not Cox's best, but it certainly will satiate any punk film lover's appetite for weirdness.
