0 LIVE REVIEW: Police Teeth, He Whose Ox Is Gored, Generalissimo, Cold Lake at Comet Tavern

This show was a Ladies Choice presents feature, so a big thanks to Adam Superfan for putting on yet another fucking awesome show.

What you gotta know minus most of the fluff:

Cold Lake kicked off the show and when I say kicked, I mean put us flat on our face, cocked the knee up to the chin and stomped us through concrete. From start to finish, they fucking tore the place apart. This band needs to be put at the top of your priority list of bands to see if you haven’t already. At this point they only have a 9 track demo tape, but it’s only $5 and it comes with an album download code. You can buy it at their shows or you can paypal $6 to yourheartbreaks@hotmail.com

He Whose Ox Is Gored blew my god damn mind. With a style I would classify as a fusion of sludge and post-metal, their music has a way of taking all that chaos and intensity that comes with metal and locking it inside of your head leaving you in a trance-- devising schemes of world domination…and I like that. Don’t believe me, be your own judge and come out and see them next weekend at Reverb Fest, they’ll be playing at 11PM at the 2 Bit. This was also a special night for the band, as it marked the release of their sophomore EP, “Op Amps 2: Into the Ethers.” If you haven’t yet heard their first EP appropriately named “Op Amps” you can download it HERE for free.

Generalissimo came out in some sort of military uniforms, which was comical I suppose. More importunately was they kept the theme of the night alive-- fucking ruling. If you missed them I’m sorry to say it could be some time before you get the chance to make up for it. They’re from Oakland and were just up here doing a 3 day tour with Police Teeth. There’s no way to tell the next time they’ll be in town but when they are, you better make that shit.

Police Teeth closed the night out and took what was already a very solid show and made it a great one. Big props to guitarist James Burns, who for the first time in his music career had to pull double band duty in one night (he also plays guitar in Cold Lake). Without a doubt the highlight of their set and quite possibly the entire night for me was their encore performance which consisted of a 10+ minute song titled “Watching The Hydroplanes”. The song is actually a cover song which according to James is about British Air Show disasters and sex and will be featured on their upcoming album due out in April (fingers crossed). Watch it and other sweet videos of the rest of the bands below.
