0 PHOTO REVIEW: Queensryche at Puyallup Fair

Celebrating 30 years as band, Seattle's own Queensryche played in front of a couple thousand at Puyallup Fair back on September 20th. Overall, it was an interesting and slightly odd experience. Queensryche's set was riddled with special guests that included not only a large group of wounded war veterans and Seattle Seahawk drum corp Blue Thunder, but even Geoff Tate's own daughter. The set was also riddled with unfamiliar material from the more recent years and lagged for the first hour until they got into the meat and potatoes of some of their biggest hits from the late 80's and early 90's. Let's face it Queensryche was really only relevent for the first 10 years of their career, and not sticking to their hit material was a mistake at this stage in the game. They eventually cut loose the big guns and ended the set on a high note with "Jet City Woman" and encore closer "Empire", which sounded great--though honestly it was too little too late. I have seen a number of Queensryche shows over the years, but this one will not go down as one of the more memorable ones. Queensryche are still local rock legends, but the fair circuit certainly doesn't do much for their crediblity, actually nor does performing material from the latter half of their career  for that matter.

One piece of news that may interest longtime fans. The band is readying the release of a 20th anniversary re-mastered and expanded edition of 'Empire'. The 2CD package will be available November 20th and features the entire triple platinum record along with 10 rare live tracks recorded at the Hammersmith Odeon. After an initial listen, the updated sound quality gives classic Queensryche tracks "Jet City Woman" and "Another Rainy Night" some extra punch and if you are still interested in spinning this album in 2010, then it may be worth picking up.
