0 Portable Shrines Magic Sound Theatre Vol. 1

Seattle's Portable Shrines Collective along with Translinguistic Other Records (the label run by Midday Veil's Emily Pothast and David Golightly) are releasing what looks to be an amazing piece of wax come April 16th (Record Store Day 2011). Portable Shrines Magic Sound Theater Vol. 1 features 18 tracks by an amazing collection of NW psychedelic, ambient, and avant-garde acts including AFCGT, Kinski, Diminished Men, This Blinding Light, Night Beats, Midday Veil and the list goes on. According to Emily Pothast, Translinguistic Other also spared no expense on the deluxe gatefold packaging which features artwork by Steve Quenell, Aubrey Nehring, Emily Pothast, Dewey Mahood and Garek Druss.

This collection is already a very popular item for collectors. Last word is the pre-sale through Light in the Attic Records is all but sold out. Which means the only opportunity to score the limited edition wax is at the release party April 2nd at Lofi. The show features a stacked bill of artists who contributed music to the compilation including Kinski, Prince Rama, Eternal Tapestry, Midday Veil, Brother Raven, and Geist & the Sacred Ensemble.

Here is the full run down on the compilation and release party:

Seattle's Portable Shrines Collective—the shadowy coterie of music fans responsible for Escalator Fest and other delectable audiovisual events—have announced that their first ever compilation, Portable Shrines Magic Sound Theatre Vol. 1 will be released on Record Store Day, April 16, 2011.

Spearheaded by Translinguistic Other Records (a new label run by members of the band Midday Veil) and distributed by Light in the Attic Records, the exquisitely curated compilation is a vinyl-only, double LP treasure trove of rare and exclusive tracks from eighteen bands currently defining the fuzzy edges of underground psychedelic, garage and experimental music in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Highlights include exclusive tracks from Seattle's AFCGT (Sub Pop), Portland's Eternal Tapestry (Thrill Jockey) and Brooklyn's Prince Rama (Paw Tracks), psychoactive rarities from local legends Kinski and Master Musicians of Bukkake, plus new music by Night Beats, Purple Rhinestone Eagle, Brother Raven, Diminished Men, Midday Veil, Plankton Wat, A Story of Rats, Janina Angel Bath, This Blinding Light, Blood Red Dancers, Geist & the Sacred Ensemble, To Get Her Together and Tiny Light. Limited to 1000 units with deluxe gatefold packaging featuring artwork by Steve Quenell, Aubrey Nehring, Emily Pothast, Dewey Mahood and Garek Druss.

The compilation is currently available for preorder via Light in the Attic. A limited number of LPs will also be available at a Record Release Party at the Lo-Fi Performance Gallery in Seattle on Saturday, April 2, featuring performances by Kinski, Prince Rama, Eternal Tapestry, Midday Veil, Brother Raven, and Geist & the Sacred Ensemble.
