0 CHBP 2011: Last Minute Saturday Festival Preview

How about a last minute run down of who we recommend you check out at block party on Saturday?

He Whose Ox is Gored
(2:00pm-2:30pm – Neumos Stage)
Don’t drink too much on Friday because your presence is requested a little early on Saturday when local heavy hitters He Whose Ox is Gored take to the Neumos stage with their unique form of blackened destruction. The Ox is a dark and extremely heavy local powerhouse who uses samples, synths, and massive riffs to their advantage. They are one of only a couple local heavy band showcased on this year’s festival, so don’t miss out.

Virgin
(7:45pm-8:15pm – Cha Cha Stage)
These dudes love them some 70’s hard rock, and that influence is best seen and heard live in the flesh. These guys go for it on every occasion and will no doubt turn the Cha Cha upside down with their natural charisma, live energy, and shredding guitars much like they did while turning heads at last year’s festival.

Nazca Lines
(8:45pm-9:15pm – Cha Cha Stage)
For fans of Fugazi. Nuff said.

Akimbo
(9:45pm – 10:15pm – Cha Cha Stage)
Let’s book Akimbo in the cramped confines of the Cha Cha Saturday. What a brilliant idea! I’m having trouble finding the words to validate how amazing this 30 half hour of brain crushing will be. If you snooze on this, you are a loser.

Les Savy Fav
(9pm-10pm – Main Stage)
These rock and roll animals graduate to the main stage this year, and there’s no telling what antics frontman Tim Harrington will pull out of his ass. Either way it should be a clinic on how to own a stage and own a festival. Les Savy Fav is one of only a few main stage acts worthy of your time this year.

It’s 10:15pm, Akimbo has just severed your head and kicked it around the room like a beach ball. What next?

Here’s an idea.

Jump in the nearest cab, say sayonara to the mass of drunken humanity on the hill and head to East Lake where an unofficial block party after-party should just be getting underway at the Black Lodge. The bill is a stellar one with Bitches Crystal (former members of Patrol), Princess, Monogamy Party, and Grenades all sharing a stage. What a brilliant, highly recommended local heavy music bill and a killer way to spend the remaining hours of July 23rd.
