As big of a Jesus Lizard fan as I have become over the years, culminating in seeing them destroy in Seattle in 2010 for the first time, I was not as familiar with Scratch Acid as I should have been before this year and I sadly missed my window to see them in 2006 because of my ignorance. I put full blame on the terrible recordings I had access too, because there is absolutely no way to fully appreciate the mayhem associated with the pioneering noise rock project of David Yow and Dave Sims via the sole posthumous release called “The Greatest Gift” that resided in my music library.
Luckily because of increasingly exciting local bands like Absolute Monarchs, Monogamy Party, and Brokaw, who are currently harkening back to a time where underground rock was at it's most explosive and brilliant, I have spent most of this dismal year for metal releases revisiting and becoming reinvigorated by bands such as Scratch Acid, Big Black, Butthole Surfers, Hammerhead, and Rapeman.
Needless to say I am very excited to end this rather crazy year of too many shows to remember with a downright barn burner this Saturday December 17th, where the legendary Scratch Acid and San Fran’s Oxbow will be performing at Neumos. It isn't often David Yow and company make it to Seattle, and to see them sharing the stage with Hydrahead oddballs, Oxbow, makes this show an especially unique opportunity.
Before the Neumos show gets underway, across the street at the Comet will be another unique opportunity to see Oxbow vocalist Eugene Robinson spit out some spoken word which will be followed by a Q&A w/ Robinson and David Yow facilitated by Seattle's very own Chris Estey. This will mark the second time Great Falls has accompanied Eugene during his spoken word, they did two shows together last year.
